Dare County School Food Services: Child Nutrition has set goals to GO GREEN and to decrease negative impacts on the environment. This includes
- Decreased use of disposable trays from 200,000 per year to 50,000 saving $7,500 per year and keeping 150,000 trays out of the landfill.
- Implemented napkins dispensers which cut napkin use by 25%.
- Napkins are made of 100% recycled fibers.
- Promotes recycling of cardboard and cans
- New in 2009-2010! recycling of plastic bottles
BUT, I’ve heard of at least one class at a local elementary school where parents are REQUIRED to send in juice boxes. What’s the deal?
